Sustainable Living Festival - the Big weekend

Bike Ride a Smoothie!
The Big Weekend at Federation Square. The sun was out in full force, which attracted thousands of visitors to the stalls. The inventions were creative and different. Here I share with you some of the photos.

The food stalls! Food ranged from veggie burgers to organic vegetarian food, coconut water, vegan cupcakes and icy poles.
I decided to go with Organic Sunrise, which offered organic icy poles for $2. It is made from organic ingredients, a combination of orange, blueberry and apple.

Then I came across the famous Mister Nice Guy's Vegan Cupcakes. I was tempted so I purchased their Cherry Bomb Cupcake ($4). Using real cherries was  different from eating fake cherries found at unhealthy bakeries. The cupcake was moist and soft. The only drawback was how sweet the vanilla icing was. I wish I could have less sugar in my icing, as I do not like overly sweet cupcakes.

Icy Pole for a hot day!

The Green House
The last stop was at the Green House, where I attended a demonstration on Vegan Body building. The bodybuilder had a shirt that said "I love Tofu" which I thought was quite funny.

Soyato at Fresh Healthy Cafe

I came across Soyato the last time at Onaka , however I did not happen to try it as I was full from my meal. Today was different, as I had to run an errand for my sister near the PSA building - I came across Fresh Healthy Cafe, at 460 Alexandra road, #01-30.

It was the weekend so the shopping centre was really quiet and peaceful. I ordered the Mango soy ice cream - S$3. The mango was evident and the ice cream was not too sweet.

Is this really from soy? I cannot taste soy in it. It tastes like normal dessert, however this is free from animal products. What a treat for a hot day! This cafe uses biodegradable utensils, with bins that clearly stated where rubbish should be placed. Let's eat healthy and be eco friendly at the same time. Fresh cafe has a wide variety of healthy salads, smoothies and wraps - which I would be happy to try the next time.

Durian - King of Fruits

Durian, considered the King of Fruits in South east asia. You probably smelt it before you seen it. Andrew Zimmern from the TV show "Bizarre foods" ate various foods - but when it came to eating Durian in Malaysia, he described it worse than eating a smelly sock.
Not everyone gets put off, fortunately. Anthony Bourdain, a famous foodie - loves Durian. I have not succeeded in convincing local australians on how wonderful this fruit is. This is because the smell overwhelms their noses.

A tip in appreciating durian has to be done in South east asia, at the durian stalls. Coming to the vendors frequently desensitizes the nostrils to the smell. Do this often and you would learn to appreciate durian fruit during the taste test.

Texture: Soft and creamy, much like the texture of a ripened avocado.

Taste: The taste is sweet, like custard.

Nutritional benefits: It has a high amount of Vitamin E, an antioxidant. However, due to the sugar content - it has to be eaten in moderation for diabetics.
